The Indiana Thoroughbred Alliance has awarded Klingler Thoroughbreds the first Indiana Equine Connection Grant to support their open house event on September 20 at Cherryvale Stables. Located in Indiana, Cherryvale Stables, established in 2022, serves as a hub for horses of various breeds and offers riding lessons, camps, and equestrian team practices. Michael Klingler, owner of Klingler Thoroughbreds and a prominent figure in Indiana’s horse racing industry, has focused on Indiana-bred Thoroughbreds, contributing significantly to the local racing scene and economy. The open house aims to educate the community about horse racing’s economic impact—nearly $2 billion according to a 2021 Purdue University study—and to dispel misconceptions about the industry, inviting people of all ages to get involved.
The event, held at Cherryvale Stables in Brazil, Indiana, will offer free refreshments, horse meet-and-greets, and information on how to participate in the sport, from ownership to employment. Klingler emphasizes the positive role of breeders in caring for racehorses and hopes to attract more local families to the racetrack for fun and engagement. The Indiana Thoroughbred Alliance plans to continue supporting similar community outreach efforts through the Equine Connection Grant program, encouraging more farms to host open houses and promote the importance of Indiana’s horse racing industry.
