Three young champions from the Kimball-Banner County Fair Horse Show—Giorgetta Varra, Taylor Whitney, and Karleigh Lukassen—shared their experiences and passion for ranching, emphasizing the patience and hard work it requires. Varra, 15, who has been around horses and cattle since infancy, highlighted how ranch life teaches patience that helps in horse showing and plans to continue in agriculture by training horses and working on the family ranch. Whitney, 18, who has trained horses since age 11 and runs her own cows, expressed her love for animals and ranch life, crediting it with teaching her patience and a lifelong commitment to ranching and horse training.
Fourteen-year-old Lukassen, newer to riding and training, proudly showed her older gelding and earned several placings, motivated by family support and a desire to continue showing in 4-H. Though she plans to pursue paramedic school, she intends to remain involved in rodeo and family ranching activities. All three agree that dedication and consistent effort in raising cattle and training horses pay off, underscoring the values of perseverance and passion in sustaining ranching traditions.
