The Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation has announced a record $20 million in awards for breeders participating in the Kentucky Thoroughbred Breeders’ Incentive Fund program. Kentucky-breds have continued to excel worldwide, winning numerous prestigious races and awards, solidifying the state’s reputation as the horse racing capital of the world.
Kentucky-breds won 289 out of 401 graded stakes races in the United States in 2024, including all three legs of the Triple Crown. The breeders of the winning horses, such as Thorpedo Anna and Mystik Dan, will receive significant awards from the KTBIF. The program was established to support Kentucky’s equine industry by rewarding breeders of Kentucky-bred Thoroughbreds.
The KTBIF is funded through a percentage of sales tax paid when a stallion is bred to a mare in Kentucky. The program has provided over a quarter of a billion dollars to breeders since its inception in 2005. A full list of the 2024 award winners and amounts can be found on the KHRGC website.
