Keeneland September Yearling Sale Sets Record with $531.6 Million in Sales

The 82nd Keeneland September Yearling Sale set a new record with a total gross of $531.6 million from 3,076 horses sold, marking a 24% increase over the previous year. The sale also saw record-breaking average and median prices of $172,833 and $80,000 respectively, with 56 yearlings fetching $1 million or more. The event attracted buyers from 33 countries, reflecting strong global demand, and was driven by factors such as high-quality horses, robust purses, favorable tax laws, and increased visibility through media and influencers. Leading consignors and buyers included Taylor Made Sales Agency and Repole stable, with top sires Not This Time and Gun Runner contributing significantly to the sale’s success.

The sale’s health was further indicated by a stable RNA rate of 17.7%, and a strong middle market performance. The final session featured a top-priced colt by Speaker’s Corner at $150,000, with overall strong participation and sales figures. Keeneland officials credited the sale’s success to the loyalty and quality of breeders, consignors, and buyers, emphasizing the event’s importance to the Thoroughbred industry. With this record-setting sale concluded, Keeneland now looks forward to its upcoming November Breeding Stock Sale.
