JRL Group has stopped sponsoring the Cheltenham Festival after pressure from PETA supporters, who highlighted the deaths of 76 horses at the event over the past 25 years. Horses are forced to run at breakneck speeds and face dangerous obstacles, resulting in fatal injuries and euthanizations.
The Cheltenham Festival sees horses pushed to their limits, resulting in heart attacks, broken bones, and other serious injuries. Many horses who can no longer race are discarded or sold for slaughter, with some even enduring terrifying journeys to be killed for meat in other countries.
To help end the cruelty of horse racing, PETA urges people to never bet on horses, avoid attending races, and encourage other companies to follow JRL Group’s lead in stopping sponsorship of events like the Cheltenham Festival. Horses deserve better treatment than being used for human entertainment and profit.
