The Montana/Dakotas Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is hosting a Wild Horse and Burro adoption event from May 2-4 in Hamilton, Montana. This free public event will take place at the horse training facility located at 736 Alvista Loop, featuring 36 wild horses, including yearlings, mares, and geldings available for adoption. Attendees can also participate in a silent auction and a horse clinic.
Horse specialist Matt “Mustang Matt” Bischof expressed optimism about the event’s turnout, highlighting its importance for the community to find homes for these horses, many of which come from larger facilities in states like Idaho, California, and Nevada. He noted that the event serves as a kickoff for multiple adoption opportunities throughout Montana and encourages individuals of all experience levels to consider adopting, especially first-time riders.
On May 3, Bischof will lead a “First Touch” horse clinic to demonstrate training techniques and answer questions. A follow-up clinic is scheduled for June 28, providing adopters with further training and health examinations for their horses. Adoption applications can be submitted online, with more information available through the BLM’s resources.
