James Smyth Crowned Dublin Horse Show Leading Rider for Fourth Consecutive Year

Producer James Smyth, based near Belfast, has been named the Dublin Horse Show leading rider for the fourth consecutive year, a significant achievement reflecting his consistent success. Managing a stable of 26 horses with partner Ryan Anderson, James showcased 22 at the event, securing numerous wins and championships across various classes including riding horses, cobs, and hunters. His standout horses included Glenkeeran The Last Dace and Bannside Dancer, while Ryan notably triumphed in the coloured section with Knockroe Flash. For James, Dublin is a pinnacle event that validates the quality and preparation of his horses.

James shared insights on competing at Dublin, emphasizing the importance of acclimating horses to the unique, electric atmosphere of the city-based show, which features unpredictable distractions and enthusiastic crowds. He values good conformation above all in young horses and prefers to develop them slowly from a young age. Reflecting on his career, James highlighted Toddi, a horse bred by his grandfather, as his horse of a lifetime due to its character and pedigree. When not showing, James enjoys attending horse sales, underscoring his deep passion for the equestrian world.
