An injured swan, found incapacitated on a road near Ballyalla Lake in Ennis after a suspected animal attack, was rescued by locals Nuala Kerins and Bernie Cahill. Unable to move and at risk of being hit by cars, the swan was safely transported to veterinarian Francis Browne with the help of Gardaí, who provided guidance on handling the bird. Browne treated the swan’s wounds and provided pain relief, caring for it over a week.
The swan’s recovery continued under the supervision of Kildare Wildlife Rescue, who are now rehabilitating it before releasing it back to its natural habitat at Ballyalla Lake. Veterinarian Browne emphasized the importance of keeping dogs leashed near swan nesting areas to prevent similar injuries, as swans are vulnerable on land.
