A 55-year-old hunter in Idaho County experienced a medical emergency while in the backcountry on October 1 and was unable to return to camp. Initial rescue attempts were delayed due to adverse weather and difficult terrain, preventing safe access that night and during early morning Life Flight efforts on October 2.
The Idaho Air National Guard was subsequently deployed and successfully extracted the man using a helicopter hoist system. He was then transported to a location where Life Flight could safely airlift him to a hospital for further medical treatment.
