On October 1, 2025, a 55-year-old hunter in Idaho County experienced a medical emergency that left him unable to return to camp. Due to severe weather and difficult terrain, initial rescue attempts by Life Flight were unsuccessful. The Idaho Air National Guard was then called in and successfully extracted the patient using a helicopter hoist system, transferring him to Life Flight for hospital transport.
The coordinated efforts of Life Flight and the Idaho Air National Guard were crucial in safely evacuating the patient and providing timely medical care. Authorities expressed gratitude for their dedication and skill in managing the challenging rescue operation.
