The Humboldt County Fair will proceed with a shortened seven-day schedule from August 16-17 and August 20-24 despite the California Horse Racing Board’s decision not to allocate horse racing dates this year. Fair organizers, led by CEO Moira Kenny, have creatively adapted the event by introducing new attractions such as a kinetic sculpture race in collaboration with the Kinetic Universe, along with potential additional race-themed activities like skeeter boats and lawnmower races. The fair will also feature traditional elements like a tractor-pulling contest, an educational raptor and reptile experience, and a new “I Voted” sticker competition.
Celebrity chef and Ferndale native Guy Fieri will return to the fair for a VIP Meet & Greet and Chili Cook-Off on August 21, continuing his strong support despite the absence of horse racing. Kenny emphasized the community’s enthusiasm and the fair’s commitment to delivering an engaging experience, highlighting the energy and innovative ideas driving this year’s event. The fair remains a vibrant local tradition, adapting to challenges while maintaining its appeal to attendees.
