Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to a call at 3:17 pm regarding a 29-year-old horse stuck in mud on West End Lane, Essendon, Hatfield. Crews from Potters Bar station and the Animal Rescue Team from Hatfield arrived on scene, working closely with a vet to safely recover the horse, which was able to stand shortly after being moved to a safer location.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Darren Cook highlighted the team’s specialized training and equipment for animal rescues and their collaboration with vets and owners to ensure positive outcomes. This recent rescue follows another successful operation in October, when the Hatfield team, alongside Essex crews, saved a horse named Princess trapped in deep water using full water rescue gear and specialist support.
