A long-standing dispute over the future of the Clarendon dressage grounds in New South Wales has reached a critical juncture, with the Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association (HDAA) agreeing to negotiate after initially planning to demolish the facilities. The grounds, leased by dressage NSW (DNSW) for over 35 years, are a key affordable venue for riders across the state and a significant economic driver for the Hawkesbury region. Despite HDAA’s earlier refusal to maintain the dressage facilities or enter new agreements, recent council intervention has paused demolition and set a 60-day deadline for resolution.
The community and equestrian bodies have rallied strongly to save Clarendon, highlighting its importance not only for sport but also for local businesses and para-equestrian safety. Equestrian NSW has offered to take over the lease, promising the resources needed to secure the site’s future. With over 3,000 petition signatures and widespread support, the outcome of these negotiations will determine whether Clarendon remains a vital hub for dressage and the local equine economy or faces permanent closure.
