Woodbine Entertainment announced the retirement of Hall of Fame trainer Roger Attfield, celebrating his extraordinary career marked by over 2,000 wins, multiple Sovereign Awards, and a legacy of excellence in Canadian Thoroughbred racing. Born in England and immigrating to Canada in 1970, Attfield trained three Canadian Triple Crown winners and tied the record with eight King’s Plate victories, earning respect for his horsemanship, dedication, and impact on the sport.
Attfield’s achievements include induction into the Canadian and U.S. Racing Halls of Fame and the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, highlighted by a memorable 2011 Breeders’ Cup win. Woodbine CEO Michael Copeland praised Attfield’s lasting influence on the racing community, with plans to formally recognize his contributions during the 2026 season as he steps away, leaving a legacy that will inspire future generations.
