Frankie Dettori Wins Emotional Final Race and First Leg of Brazil’s Triple Crown

Frankie Dettori concluded his illustrious 40-year jockey career with an emotional victory in Rio de Janeiro on February 1, winning aboard Speak Alpha in the first leg of Brazil’s Triple Crown. He followed this with another win on Bet You Can in the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro (G1T), celebrating a fitting end to his riding days. Dettori’s final ride was on Lucky Time, who finished sixth, and he chose not to ride Nidavellir in the last race due to the horse’s behavior.

Dettori’s career was marked by remarkable achievements, including three championship titles, 288 top-level wins, and a historic sweep of all seven races at Ascot in 1996. Beyond racing, he gained celebrity status through reality TV appearances but also faced challenges, such as a six-month ban in 2012 for cocaine use and financial difficulties leading to bankruptcy in 2023. Despite these setbacks, Dettori remains a beloved figure who helped popularize horse racing worldwide.
