Firefighters in Prince William County successfully rescued a 900-pound pony that had fallen into a swimming pool in Nokesville. The pony had wandered into the pool area overnight, stepping onto a canvas-covered pool before falling into about four feet of water. Upon arrival, crews quickly recognized the need for a large animal rescue and called in additional support from the Little Fork Volunteer Fire and Rescue, a team specially trained for such incidents.
The rescue operation involved constructing a ramp into the pool, with two firefighters in dry suits securing heavy-duty straps around the pony. The horse was then carefully hoisted out with ropes while veterinarians administered a mild sedative to keep it calm. After being safely removed, the pony was taken to a nearby stable for assessment, with no injuries reported. The coordinated efforts of the responders ensured the safety of both the animal and the rescue team.
