Festive Horse Races Celebrate 34th Anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence at Ashgabat Equestrian Complex

Festive events were held at the modernized Ashgabat equestrian sports complex to celebrate the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, with President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in attendance. The horse races, featuring the elite Akhal-teke breed—renowned worldwide for their beauty, endurance, and cultural significance—highlighted the nation’s deep-rooted equestrian traditions. Under President Berdimuhamedov’s leadership, efforts continue to develop horse breeding, preserve the purity of the Akhal-teke horses, and promote national equestrian culture, exemplified by initiatives like the Aba Annayev International Horse Breeding Academy and the International Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding Association.

The celebrations included exhibitions showcasing artistic works inspired by Akhal-teke horses, cultural performances, and seven competitive racecourses featuring top horses and jockeys from across the country. Winners were awarded in a ceremony that underscored the importance of equestrian sports to Turkmenistan’s heritage and international prestige. The event symbolized the nation’s progress and commitment to preserving its traditions under President Berdimuhamedov’s guidance, reinforcing the Akhal-teke horse as a national emblem and a source of pride for Turkmenistan.
