The El Dorado County Search and Rescue team assisted in the rescue of a horse that had fallen through an opening in an abandoned silo. The mare, named Matsie, had fallen through a 22-inch opening in the floor of the silo into the basement, prompting a mutual aide request from Yolo County Animal Services Shelter for assistance.
Yolo County sent out requests to multiple agencies, including UC Davis’s Large Animal Clinic Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, North Valley Animal Disaster Group, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, and Yolo Fire, to assist in the difficult rescue. The collaboration efforts of these agencies, along with the technical equipment donated by the Halter Project, led to a successful rescue operation.
Thanks to the dedication, consistent training, and teamwork of the rescuers involved, Matsie was successfully rescued and reunited with her family and friends. The El Dorado County Search and Rescue team played a crucial role in the rescue operation, highlighting the importance of collaboration and training in large animal rescues.
