Determined to Ride at 70: My Journey to the USEA American Eventing Championships

The author shares a personal journey of competing at the USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC), starting with plans in 2018 that were delayed due to their horse Dale’s injury. Despite setbacks, including a broken hand in 2022 that prevented them from riding, the author persevered with the support of their coach and trainer, witnessing Dale’s success under another rider. Now at age 70, with a long-time horse and dog by their side, the author is determined to compete again, especially since the 2025 AEC will be held in their home state of California.

The USEA American Eventing Championships is a prestigious national event drawing top riders from across the country to compete at all levels, from Starter to Advanced. Known as the largest eventing competition in North America, the AEC offers significant prizes and the chance to earn national titles. The 2025 event is scheduled for August 27-31 at Galway Downs in Temecula, California, and is supported by prominent sponsors such as Nutrena Feeds, Adequan, Bates Saddles, and others.
