Delaware Park to Host First-Ever Safari Sprint with Camels, Zebras, and Ostriches on July 4

Delaware Park will celebrate Independence Day with eight traditional thoroughbred horse races alongside a unique “Safari Sprint” featuring camel, zebra, and ostrich races, marking the first time these exotic animals will race at the track. While pari-mutuel wagering won’t be available for the non-horse races, Rewards Players can win slot dollars by picking winners. The exotic races, held at 1/16 miles in front of the grandstands, will add a family-friendly twist to the day, complemented by food trucks, a pop-up bar, and activities in the picnic area.

The event kicks off at 12:30 p.m. and concludes around 5:30 p.m., allowing attendees to enjoy evening fireworks afterward. Fans can also meet the exotic animals on July 3 near the paddock. The July 4 schedule alternates between thoroughbred and exotic races, with zebra, camel, and ostrich races interspersed throughout the afternoon, promising an entertaining and festive experience for visitors of all ages.
