The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame has appointed D.G. Van Clief as chair of the Contemporary Nominating Committee and Josh Pons as chair of the Pillars of the Turf Committee. Van Clief, who previously chaired the Pillars of the Turf Committee, succeeds the late Edward L. Bowen and brings extensive leadership experience in the racing industry, including roles with the Breeders’ Cup, National Thoroughbred Racing Association, and The Jockey Club. Meanwhile, Pons, a third-generation Maryland horseman and award-winning writer, has served on the Pillars of the Turf Committee for two years and is actively involved in various industry organizations.
With these new committee chairs, the museum leadership is beginning a review of the Hall of Fame nomination and election process, including the contemporary voting panel. Both Van Clief and Pons are advisory trustees of the museum and bring deep industry knowledge and commitment to their new roles, aiming to uphold and enhance the integrity and recognition standards of the Hall of Fame.
