The Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center in Longmont quickly resumed services the day after a school bus crashed through its property while swerving to avoid a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 52. The bus caused significant damage by striking fences, a light pole, and downing power lines, but fortunately, no riders or parents were present at the time, preventing potential injuries. Staff and volunteers acted promptly to manage the situation, including extinguishing a fire on the bus and repairing fencing to allow horses outside.
Despite the extensive damage, the nonprofit remains committed to its mission of providing therapeutic riding services for people with disabilities, emphasizing the importance of these sessions for clients’ social interaction and well-being. The center is seeking community support through its ongoing Paint the Pony fundraiser to help cover repair costs, though the total damage expense is still unknown. Executive Director Michele Bruhn expressed gratitude for the avoided tragedy and reaffirmed the center’s dedication to caring for its property, animals, and clients.
