Byron Earl “Barry” Fisher, born in Burley, Idaho in 1932, passed away peacefully at home at age 81. After moving to California as a teenager, Barry met his lifelong love, Sylvia Henningsen, and together they built a life centered on family, education, and outdoor adventure. Barry served in the Air Force Reserve and Navy, trained as a pilot during the Korean War, and pursued higher education, earning a BA and MA in School Administration. He dedicated 35 years to education as a teacher and elementary school principal in Santa Rosa, while raising two children with Sylvia and sharing a passion for camping, horseback riding, and nature.
Throughout his life, Barry was deeply involved in community service, supporting local agricultural and conservation efforts, and enjoying decades of trail riding with friends. He remained active and engaged until the end, returning from a hunting trip shortly before his passing and spending quality time with family and friends. Barry is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and many loved ones. In lieu of formal services, contributions in his honor may be made to the SRJC Equine Program or Landpaths, reflecting his lifelong love of the outdoors and community.
