Bay Search & Rescue’s Large Animal Rescue Team was mobilized to assist in extracting a horse stuck at Middleton Sands, but the animal was freed before their arrival and the team was stood down. Morecambe Lifeboat reported their third callout of the weekend to assist two people and a horse stuck in the mud, but all were able to self-rescue before their arrival.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Morecambe Coastguard Rescue Team, and Morecambe Lifeboat were all called to the incident, but the horse and individuals were able to free themselves before the arrival of the rescue teams. Morecambe Lifeboat provided tips on staying safe near the water, including being cautious of all edges, letting someone know your plans, being careful in dark and slippery conditions, having a means of calling for help, and checking the weather and tides to avoid getting cut off.
BSAR’s Hagglund Bv206 crane and equipment were ready to assist in the rescue, but were not needed as the horse and individuals were able to free themselves. Morecambe Lifeboat also emphasized the importance of safety near the water, including being cautious of all edges, letting someone know your plans, and being prepared with a means of calling for help.
