The Bureau of Land Management’s Southeastern States District Office (SSDO) showcased its Wild Horse and Burro (WHB) Program at the 61st annual Dixie National Parade in Jackson, Mississippi, on February 14, 2026. The parade, themed “For Love of Country” in honor of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, featured the WHB team riding trained wild mustangs through downtown, alongside a decorated government truck promoting adoption opportunities. This participation highlighted the program’s mission to find good homes for wild horses and burros gathered from public lands while educating the public about responsible stewardship.
With thousands of spectators attending, the BLM team’s presence fostered meaningful community engagement and raised awareness about the importance of preserving America’s iconic wild equines. The event underscored BLM’s broader role beyond western rangelands, connecting diverse eastern communities to the agency’s conservation efforts. Through such outreach, the WHB program continues to promote the legacy and adoption of wild horses and burros for future generations.
