The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a two-day wild horse and burro adoption event on April 10-11 at the Phil Gardenhire Memorial rodeo arena in Poteau, Oklahoma. The event will feature 100 wild horses and burros, including adults and yearlings that were once free-roaming on public lands. Adoptions will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 10 and from 8 a.m. to noon on April 11, with BLM staff available onsite to assist with applications and provide information.
To qualify for adoption, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no history of animal abuse, and provide adequate corral space and shelter for the animals. The BLM has placed over 280,000 wild horses and burros in approved homes since 1973 as part of its efforts to manage healthy herds and protect rangeland resources. For more details, interested individuals can contact the BLM or visit their website.
