The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a two-day wild horse and burro adoption event at the Hugo rodeo arena in Hugo, Oklahoma, on March 27-28. The event will feature 150 wild horses and burros, including adults and yearlings that were once free-roaming on public lands. Adoptions will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 27 and from 8 a.m. to noon on March 28, with BLM staff available onsite to assist with applications and provide information.
The BLM regularly removes excess animals from public rangelands to maintain healthy herds and protect natural resources, placing over 280,000 animals in approved homes since 1973. To qualify for adoption, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no history of animal abuse, and provide adequate corral space and shelter meeting specific fencing requirements. All animals must be transported in covered, stock-type trailers. For more details, interested parties can contact the BLM or visit their website.
