The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is hosting the Freedom 250 wild horse auction and educational event at the Mesa County Fairgrounds in Colorado. This weekend event includes educational stations on Friday where visitors can meet and learn about 18 trained horses and interact with trainers. The event also features the Colorado Foster Care Challenge, a program supporting the fostering and adoption of horses gathered from four state management areas, working closely with local advocacy groups to prepare horses for adoption.
The live auction of the trained horses will take place on Saturday, drawing competitive bids often involving families and children, making the event lively and emotional. Funding from the event helps support trainers’ work with the horses prior to adoption, and the BLM emphasizes the importance of partnerships with local organizations such as Friends of the Mustang and Wild Horse Warriors to ensure the program’s success. The auction concludes at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
