Blarney Quercus, an eight-year-old Baltydaniel Romeo gelding bred at Blarney Castle, secured victory in the British Horse Feeds and Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) full ridden Irish Draught final and the overall section championship at the Agria Royal International Horse Show. Ridden by Charles Le Moignon, who also produced the horse, Quercus was purchased as a foal by owners Peter and Kathy Bowdler after impressing at Dublin. Despite Peter recently undergoing open-heart surgery and being unable to attend, the win was a heartening moment for the team, with Charles praising Quercus’s temperament and potential as they plan to target Horse of the Year Show qualifiers next.
The reserve champion title went to Under Attack, a nine-year-old Irish Draught sports horse ridden by Myles Cooper and owned by Alan Marnie. Bred by Billy Moran, Under Attack has been a consistent competitor in hunter and Irish Draught classes. Judges noted the high standard of competition, highlighting the champion’s flawless performance and excellent preparation. The event showcased a strong mix of established and younger horses, with an enthusiastic atmosphere and top-quality rides throughout.
