At the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen’s Day (HPPNK) 2025 held at the Sabah International Convention Centre, the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) showcased the rare Bajau Ponies, also known as Kuda Padi Sabah, brought from Tuaran and Kota Belud. These small, hardy horses, culturally significant to the Samah Bajau ethnic group, were introduced as a unique attraction to engage visitors. Alongside the ponies, the DVS highlighted Sabah’s agricultural diversity by exhibiting other livestock breeds such as white buffalo, Boer and Kalahari goats, ducks, and rabbits, while also offering farm-to-table food experiences and lucky draws.
The event also featured a two-day pedigree cat competition with over 60 participants, free pet cat health checkups, and educational exhibits on animal welfare and the MyFeed app, designed to help breeders manage livestock nutrition. The DVS exhibition, part of the “Cukup dan Terjamin” segment, ran from Friday to Sunday, aiming to raise awareness about animal breeding, health, and conservation efforts, including the preservation of endangered species like the Bajau Pony.
