Alogon Edges Bold Journey to Win Grade 3 Belmont Turf Sprint at Belmont Park

Charles T. Matses’ Kentucky-homebred Alogon, a 6-year-old California Chrome gelding trained by Ned Allard and ridden by Dylan Davis, narrowly won the Grade 3, $200,000 Belmont Turf Sprint at Belmont Park. Alogon, who had previously placed third and fourth in this race, stalked the pace before taking the lead in the final sixteenth and holding off Bold Journey by a neck, finishing in 1:07.63. This marked Alogon’s first win in five starts this year and his second local stakes victory, with plans to possibly defend his title in the upcoming Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship.

The race featured a fast early pace set by Dancing Buck, the 2022 winner, with Bold Journey rallying from the back but just falling short. Alogon’s trainer praised his consistent performances this year, while jockey Davis highlighted the tactical ride that allowed Alogon to settle before making his winning move. Bold Journey, trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, finished second for the fourth time in five turf starts. The event was part of the fall meet at Belmont, with live coverage available on FOX Sports and wagering through NYRA Bets.
