The 4-H SLV Fair, held last week at the Ski-Hi Complex in Monte Vista, showcased the talents and hard work of 291 exhibitors with 200 indoor projects, 114 of which advanced to the State Fair. Larry Brown, CSU Extension Agent for the San Luis Valley, praised the youth for their dedication across a wide range of activities, from animal care to diverse indoor projects like robotics and veterinary science. The livestock exhibitors sold 190 animals, including beef, swine, lambs, goats, rabbits, and poultry, while also showing breeding stock and horses.
Brown expressed confidence in the future, noting that many former 4-H participants are now his advisors and leaders. He also extended gratitude to the sponsors and businesses that supported the fair by purchasing livestock projects. The event concluded with a banquet hosted by the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, with assistance from 4-H club members, highlighting the community’s strong support for youth development.
