Starting in 2026, Colorado will enact 19 new laws, including significant measures benefiting renters and individuals facing mental health challenges. One key law, House Bill 25-1236, will change tenant screening practices by prohibiting landlords from requiring disclosure of credit scores or credit history, making it easier for those with poor credit to secure rental housing. Another important law, House Bill 25-1002, mandates that employer-provided health benefits cover mental health, substance abuse, and behavioral health issues alongside physical health.
These new laws reflect Colorado’s broader efforts to address social and health concerns, alongside other legislative changes aimed at improving tenant rights and expanding healthcare coverage. Additional laws passed recently focus on various issues such as gun regulations and stricter enforcement against bad actors in employment, housing, and voting, signaling a comprehensive approach to enhancing protections for residents.
