19 New Colorado Laws Taking Effect in 2026 to Benefit Renters and Mental Health

In 2026, Colorado will enact 19 new laws, with notable changes benefiting renters and individuals facing mental health challenges. One key law, House Bill 25-1236, will ease rental barriers by preventing landlords from requiring disclosure of credit scores or histories during tenant screening, helping those with poor credit secure housing more easily. Another significant law, House Bill 25-1002, mandates that employer-provided health benefits cover mental health, substance abuse, and behavioral health issues alongside physical ailments, expanding support for Coloradans struggling with mental health.

Beyond these, Colorado continues to address various issues through new legislation, including gun laws introduced in 2025 and measures targeting bad actors in employment, housing, and voting. These laws reflect the state’s ongoing efforts to protect residents and improve quality of life across multiple areas.
