The 4-H for Horses Building at the 2025 New York State Fair attracted over 50,000 visitors, offering a unique opportunity for the public to interact closely with horses. This initiative was powered by more than 30 youth and 75 adult volunteers, many of whom gained valuable hands-on experience in horse care and public education despite not owning horses themselves. Key volunteer Amanda Frink played a crucial role in coordinating the horses and ensuring their well-being, highlighting the program’s emphasis on youth leadership and personal growth.
The building served as a dynamic learning environment where 4-H youth led horse care activities and educational presentations, supported by programs like Cornell’s Equine Ambassadors. According to NYS 4-H Equine Youth Specialist Brieanna Hughes, the program not only educates the public about the equine industry but also fosters leadership and workforce readiness among youth. Rooted in Cornell University’s Cooperative Extension mission, the 4-H Horse Program continues to expand, inviting community partners to support its ongoing development at future State Fairs.
