Young Cowboys and Cowgirls Learn Rodeo Skills at Kernville’s Inaugural Cowkids Rodeo Camp

The inaugural Cowkids rodeo Camp in Kernville, California, introduced 17 children to rodeo skills such as roping, riding, and grooming over a three-day event. Participants, ranging from six-year-olds like Kashton Runyon who enjoyed mutton busting, to others like Dottie Sue Bletcher and Jax Spraulding who favored horseback riding and roping respectively, enthusiastically engaged in various activities designed to foster a love for the sport.

Lead instructor Janeen Fisher emphasized the camp’s mission to revive interest in rodeo among youth and sustain the tradition by involving as many children as possible. The Kernville Chamber of Commerce plans to continue hosting similar events to strengthen community ties and ensure the future of rodeo, with young attendees like Jax eagerly anticipating sharing the experience with friends in upcoming camps.
