Woodbine Entertainment, facing industry and economic challenges, has reorganized its workforce and laid off an undisclosed number of employees as part of a broader strategic realignment aimed at strengthening its business over the long term. Operating in Ontario with flagship Thoroughbred and Standardbred racing facilities, Woodbine has maintained the same number of race dates this year as in 2024, though the number of races and total betting handle have declined slightly, with purses increasing modestly.
Despite a 5.2% drop in total handle, Woodbine’s share of the overall Thoroughbred market has grown marginally by 0.34%, even as North America experiences a 10.4% decrease in total handle. Woodbine remains committed to supporting Ontario’s horse-racing industry and delivering world-class racing experiences at its Toronto and Milton venues.
