Woman Sues World Equestrian Center and Rider After Severe Injury in Horse Stampede Incident

Tammi Catrett has filed a lawsuit against the World Equestrian Center (WEC), event organizer Sabra O’Quinn, and rider Nicole Boccaccio following a severe injury sustained during the “Labor Day Barrel Blast” event on August 30, 2025. The complaint alleges that while assisting a student in the arena’s holding pen, Catrett was struck and thrown into the air by Boccaccio’s horse, which was reportedly moving at an uncontrollable speed due to the rider’s reins becoming unusable. The incident occurred as multiple horses and riders were allowed into the chute simultaneously, creating a hazardous environment.

The lawsuit accuses WEC and the event organizers of negligence for overselling and overcrowding the event, failing to regulate the flow and occupancy of participants in the holding pen and chutes. It also claims Boccaccio was negligent for not taking precautions despite knowing her reins were compromised. Catrett seeks damages exceeding $50,000 for her serious, permanent injuries, including pain and suffering, disability, medical expenses, and lost earnings.
