Wind, Rain, Mud, and Tears of Joy at the Melbourne International Three-Day Event

The Melbourne International Three-Day Event at Werribee showcased a weekend of intense competition and challenging conditions, with winter weather making the cross-country phase particularly demanding. Sophia Hill won the CCI four-star class on Tulara Baltango, leveraging her strong cross-country skills to overcome a tight leaderboard. West Australians dominated the three-star class, with 17-year-old Charlee Morton-Sharp taking the win on SV Supermaxi despite recent setbacks, including her horse’s pneumonia and her mother’s injury. Other notable performances included Shane Rose’s second place in the two-star class and Lamoza Velisha’s narrow victory in the Junior/Young Rider two-star category.

The event also highlighted emerging talent through young event horse challenges and recognized volunteer contributions, with Sean Kellett honored as the most outstanding volunteer. French rider Marlene Battedou won the one-star class on former Thoroughbred Le Grand d’Amour, while young horses across various age groups claimed their respective titles. The event underscored the resilience and dedication of riders, horses, and volunteers alike, celebrating achievements amid tough, muddy conditions.
