William Shatner to Undergo Surgery After Horse-Riding Accident at Age 94

William Shatner, the 94-year-old actor best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek series, has announced he will undergo surgery to repair a shoulder injury sustained in a recent horse-riding accident. Despite his age, Shatner remains an avid equestrian, having competed and won championships well into his late 80s. He revealed the injury while accepting a Hall of Fame award for Star Trek at the Saturn Awards, explaining that he fell off a horse during a fast equine skills competition and damaged his shoulder, necessitating a “reverse” shoulder operation.

Shatner’s career spans over seven decades, from early TV and Broadway roles to iconic sci-fi fame and later successes in film and television, including award-winning performances in Boston Legal. He also made headlines in 2021 when he flew to space aboard Blue Origin’s first crewed flight. This latest health setback follows a previous hospital visit six months ago due to a blood sugar issue. Despite these challenges, Shatner continues to work and engage with fans at events like Comic-Con.
