Western Washington is facing significant flooding and landslide risks due to heavy rainfall expected to continue through Thursday, with up to 6 inches of rain in lowlands and over a foot of snow in the mountains. Authorities have issued a Flood Watch for the region, and multiple road closures have occurred, including State Routes 202, 203, and 162, as well as I-90 eastbound near North Bend due to a mudslide. Emergency services have conducted rescues of stranded drivers, and residents near rivers prone to flooding have been warned to prepare and avoid floodwaters, which pose serious safety hazards.
In response to the severe weather, Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson activated the National Guard Operation Center, and several counties declared emergencies. The Evergreen State Fair in Monroe has opened stables to temporarily house livestock threatened by flooding. Officials continue to monitor rising rivers, such as the Cowlitz River, which is expected to reach major flood stages. KING 5 has activated its First Alert Weather coverage to provide ongoing updates and safety information to residents throughout the Pacific Northwest.
