West Yorkshire Police Launch Operation Gallop to Combat Equine Crime

West Yorkshire Police are participating in Operation Gallop, a national initiative aimed at addressing crimes affecting horse owners and riders. This collaborative effort involves police forces and equine organizations and is scheduled to run from April 28 to May 4. The operation will feature “close pass operations” to ensure drivers adhere to Highway Code rules regarding safe passing of equestrians.

In addition to road safety measures, West Yorkshire Police will provide advice on preventing horsebox thefts. Their Wildlife and Rural Crime Officers will visit stables to offer guidance and promote the Horse Watch scheme, which aims to enhance security for horse owners.

The initiative comes in response to a reported increase in horsebox thefts across the country, highlighting the need for greater awareness and protective measures within the equestrian community. More details can be found on the West Yorkshire Police website.
