West Virginia 4-H Youths Celebrate National 4-H Week with “Beyond Ready” Initiative

During National 4-H Week (Oct. 5-11), West Virginia 4-H highlights its “Beyond Ready” initiative, emphasizing how the program equips youth with essential skills for the future. As a free youth development program under West Virginia University Extension, 4-H serves over 50,000 young people annually through clubs, camps, and specialized programs in STEM, leadership, and community service. The program offers diverse opportunities beyond its agricultural roots, including science, technology, citizenship, and healthy lifestyles, fostering confidence, leadership, and real-world skills among members aged 8 to 21, with a pre-4-H Cloverbuds program for younger children.

Local 4-H agents like Jodi Smith stress that 4-H prepares youth not just for the future but to lead it, providing experiences that build character and leadership in Wood and Wirt counties. Members and supporters celebrated the week by wearing green and sharing stories on social media using #4HBeyondReady and #National4HWeek. Those interested in joining or learning more can contact their local WVU Extension offices or visit the program’s website.
