West Texas A&M IHSA Equestrian Team Wins High-Point at University of Oklahoma Competition

The West Texas A&M University Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Equestrian team, consisting of 46 members, recently competed at the University of Oklahoma and secured the high-point team victory on both days of the event. The team competes in both Western and English riding disciplines, with riders randomly assigned horses at competitions, adding an element of surprise and challenge. Members train regularly and compete in divisions based on skill level, working towards accumulating points to qualify for regional and national competitions.

Beyond their athletic success, the team fosters personal growth, teamwork, and strong friendships among its members. Tryouts are held annually, and the team actively encourages new participants and community support through events like their fundraising show, “All Hat No Cattle.” The team’s achievements highlight WT’s broader athletic excellence and offer a unique opportunity for students interested in equestrian sports.
