West Place Animal Sanctuary in Tiverton, Rhode Island, is hosting a special day of public tours on Sunday, September 28, following a rain postponement of its Fall Visitors Weekend. The 90-minute guided tours, running from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a special driving tour at 4 p.m., offer guests the chance to meet rescued farm animals and explore the historic Dr. Samuel West farm, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary. Visitors can also enjoy exclusive Heritage Tours that highlight the land’s history, the West family legacy, and an 18th-century cemetery on the property.
This event also marks West Place’s 18 years as a nonprofit sanctuary, recently recognized by U.S. Rep. Gabe Amo. Guests will see the sanctuary’s new barn, meet Happy, a rescued draft horse receiving medical care, and view “Lata,” a life-sized elephant calf replica promoting human-animal coexistence. The sanctuary hosts three visitor weekends annually, drawing people from across New England to learn about the animals’ stories and support the sanctuary’s ongoing work on Rhode Island’s Farm Coast. Advance registration is encouraged, with ticket proceeds benefiting the animals in their care.
