This summer, West Coast Morgans in Odessa will host a weeklong horse riding and training camp for children aged 6 to 12, immersing them in the horse-farm lifestyle. Led by owner and head trainer Anne Winograd, the camp offers an intensive, education-focused experience that goes beyond riding to teach barn management, horseshoeing, grooming, tack care, and proper horse etiquette. Each camper receives personalized instruction, progressing from beginner saddle work to freer riding, culminating in a judged horse show where they showcase their skills and earn awards.

Started over 20 years ago for internal riders, the camp has grown to welcome many novices from surrounding areas, fostering a love for horses and riding that often leads to continued lessons and even future roles as trainers. Winograd emphasizes safety and education, aiming to minimize falls and ensure kids learn valuable skills both on and off the horse. Many campers return year after year, with some eventually joining the staff to teach younger riders, creating a supportive, homegrown community centered on horsemanship and lifelong learning.
