Wellington International is undergoing a major transformation in preparation to host the Global dressage Festival in 2027, with extensive upgrades including new and rehabilitated competition arenas, a large covered arena, permanent stabling, improved horse and pedestrian paths, and a newly designed grass main arena featuring VIP areas and grandstands. These improvements follow the decision to convert the neighboring Equestrian Village into luxury housing, prompting expansion onto undeveloped land. Under the leadership of CEO Murray Kessler and ownership by Mark Bellissimo’s group, the venue aims to maintain its status as a premier equestrian facility, with plans to relocate dressage competitions to the new arena and enhance the CDI5* dressage event to a world-class level.
Despite dressage being less profitable than jumping and hunters, Wellington International is committed to supporting and growing the sport in the U.S., encouraging more participation in highlight events like Friday Night Lights. The recent upgrades have already boosted ticket sales by 59%, increased sponsorship, and nearly sold out VIP club memberships for the 2026 season. With over 7,000 horses and 6,000 riders from across the globe competing annually, Wellington International continues to have a significant economic impact of over $538 million, solidifying its role as a leading venue in the equestrian world.
