Waverly Midwest Horse Auction Draws Thousands, Features High-Value Draft Cross Horses

The Waverly Midwest Horse Auction in Iowa recently concluded a successful five-day event, attracting between 5,000 and 6,000 attendees and featuring around 800 horses, including over 300 high-quality draft cross horses. According to Leon Martin, owner and president of Waverly Sales Company, the auction saw strong sales with top draft cross horses selling between $30,000 and $38,000, ponies fetching $12,000 to $15,000, and the highest-selling horse, a Gypsy gelding, bringing in $40,000.

With the spring sale complete, preparations are already underway for the next auction scheduled for October. Martin emphasized that the event’s success depends on the collaboration of good consignors and buyers, highlighting the behind-the-scenes effort required to maintain the auction’s strong market presence. The auction continues to be a significant event for horse enthusiasts and buyers nationwide.
