Volunteers Needed to Remove Toxic Ragwort from Margaret Haes Riding Centre Grazing Fields

Ragwort has been found in the grazing fields at Margaret Haes Riding Centre in Holcombe, posing serious health risks to the horses, including abdominal pain, neurological issues, and potentially fatal liver disease. The centre urgently needs community volunteers to help remove the invasive plant before it flowers and spreads seeds. Despite ragwort’s value to pollinating insects, its threat to horse welfare necessitates its removal to protect the animals cared for by the charity.

Margaret Haes Riding Centre supports vulnerable individuals through equine-assisted programs and emphasizes the importance of maintaining horse health. Volunteers are encouraged to assist with ragwort removal, with tools and refreshments provided, and can enjoy the scenic location near Peel Tower. Those interested can contact the centre to offer their time or ask questions.
