Volunteers Needed for Therapeutic Horseback Riding Lessons at Horses & Horizons

Horses & Horizons Therapeutic Learning Center Inc. is seeking volunteers to support therapeutic horseback riding lessons for children and adults with disabilities. Volunteers, who must be at least 14 years old, assist as side aides or horse leaders during lessons held Monday and Wednesday evenings in an eight-week spring session starting May 4. A mandatory training session for new volunteers is scheduled for April 18, with additional training for those experienced with horses who wish to lead. The center serves individuals with various disabilities, including cerebral palsy, autism, and Down Syndrome, offering lessons that are both therapeutic and enjoyable.

The center also welcomes volunteers with allied health backgrounds and those interested in grounds maintenance, equipment cleaning, and fundraising. Volunteer Coordinator Louise Brong emphasizes the rewarding nature of helping riders make physical, mental, and emotional progress through horseback riding. Interested individuals can contact the center for more information or to sign up for training.
